Alumni are cordially invited to join the University of Sydney and the Western NSW Alumni Network on Thursday 8 April for a complimentary cocktail reception at the historic homestead "Knocklong" in the centre of Orange hosted by fellow alumna Sue Johnson (BA '72, DipEd '73, GradCert '06, MA '08)
The evening will include music, canapes, beverages and a talk by internationally-renowned researcher and author Professor Mark Adams (BSc '79, PhD '84 Melb ) on "Feeding the Planet".
Mark is currently Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Sydney which celebrates 100 years of world-changing Agriculture in 2010.
Mark Adams has held Professorial appointments at the University of Western Australia, the University of Melbourne, and most recently at UNSW. He publishes widely with a focus on sustainability and biogeochemistry of natural and managed ecosystems.Mark's published work includes more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, major texts, and many commissioned reports for governments and industries. He is the recipient of multiple fellowships and awards in Australia and overseas and is a passionate believer in “conservation through use”.
In his talk "Feeding the Planet", Mark will discuss the world's need to double food production by 2050 to keep pace with our ballooning global population, in the light of increasingly scarce natural resources (incl. water). Mark will highlight the Faculty's expertise in increasing food production efficiency, using a multidisciplinary approach which considers resource scarcity and security at every level.
Those attending the event from afar may also like to take advantage of the Good Food Week Festival in Orange which runs from Friday 9 to Sunday 18 April.
